I've been priveliged to be given a sneak peak media copy of the GT Academy GT5 Time Trial game. It is really stripped down as it only has 2 cars (the normal 370z and a tuned version) and 1 track (the Indianapolis Speedway GP circuit) and was a quick 219MB download. It has the familiar GT5P functionality, look and feel.

Image

R1/R1 tyres a lovely and grippy. But for a quick trip back to reality, the N3/N3 tyre combo requires finesse the peddles and a deft touch on the wheel.

As you can see, the game version I have will expire, so I best make the most of it.

While there are two individual time trials for the normal and tuned, the total time is also taken into account.

There are a few glitchy moments with the version I have with a noticeable hiccup every time I cross the line. I hope that this will be ironed out before release day of the fully fledged competition game.

And that's a little bit of a disappointment to me... as I am a competition licence holder I am not eligible to enter this, so will watch from the sidelines and see how the Antipideon drivers fair.

You are lucky Stu, a glitchy preview is better than the rest of us have.
I do like to screen shots :tu:

Well didn't TORC get some advertising tonight! New Most ever users online record of 71 I think.... 41 up on the old record. :lol: Notice the conversation at GTPlanet too since I posted a link here! :sur

Thanks again Joe Racer, a few people are wondering about the physics... Any different to Prologue?

Ah, yeah... nice of the GTPlanet guys to ask if they could steal my wonky screen shots. Hold on, if they did ask it wouldn't be stealing. :smi

Yes, the hiccups are still there and for a while I was wondering if it could be my PS3's problem.

Not that I have any expectations to get anywhere close to the best times, much less with my faithfull dualshock 3, but these is what I have in the portuguese ranking:
Normal - 1:51.239 (28th)
Tuned - 1:38.735 (32nd)
Overall - 3:29.974 (26th)

The portuguese leader has 1:48.324 + 1:36.355 = 3:24.679, I think I've seen his name (Meagainstyou) in the last TORC, but I could be wrong.
For what i've seen, his time is 3rd overall behind 2 australians.
I can't find a ranking with all countries mixed, I was just curious to see where I stand...if in the top 1000! :oops:

What does everyone think of the handling - I ran a few laps with my dualshock and found it quite twitchy, certainly very different from prologue. My initial impression is that the handling is weighted for driving with wheels.

Have no expectations of troubling the top of the leaderboard, but hopefully I can claim a few scalps from this board :twisted:

I ran some laps in the early hours of the morning (when I should have been asleep!!) with the DS and managed a 4??th in Tuned and 169th in normal... but while I was looking at the leader board I was pushed to 171th :sur quickly being pushed down the ladder.

I need to get the wheel hooked up, coz I didn't like the way if handled through the DS, maybe its just the car??

This car at least, the handling is very sensitive and when accelerating things can get all messy, especially with the normal version. The tuned car always has the TCS to help, something that I had no option but to use it.
I wonder why the hiccups in this demo. And it's not only at the starting line at all.
Wouldn't it be great if the final version also had it? :lol: Yes I know, not funny! :rr

I was a bit shocked when my 1st lap gave position >6000 :sur . With a bit of work I am down to 1:37.913 in the tuned car which was 86th a few minutes ago.

The glitches are pretty annoying, not like PD to release something with flaws like that.

I ran some laps on Thu night after the download finished with the dual shock and thought it was twitchy too, but then last night dusted off my rig & did some more laps. It was less twitchy with the wheel, but much harder to correct a tail slide. :2c

Maybe I need more laps.

Since there are so many times posted in the official leader board, I thought it might be a good idea to keep tabs here on all our times & times of our fellow racers we know.

Post your times fellas & I'll keep it updated!

I downloaded the demo and tried it with the controller, very sensitive on the steering. Tried it with the wheel today and thought it was much easier. Will be giving this another go tonight or Sunday and will post my times.

Dont know if its just me but i'm not really enjoying the new download. Does not 'feel' right to me. I usually love doing hotlaps and chasing ghosts but cant seem to get into the latest offering. Bugger.

Looks like i'll be waiting for GT5 proper :cry:

I know what you mean Ryp, the feeling it different. But for the last few months, I have been driving on a PSP, so I was expecting it to be different.

I've done some improvements to get back into the top 20.

Normal = 1'48.749
Tuned = 1'36.876
Overall = 3'25.625 (18th at this time)

:-)

Good on all you guys doing top times. Will be good to see what happens when its all over and the real competitive stuff comes alive.

Still can't come to grips with the download, but i see many of you are doing just fine. Bastards :p ;)

The track they picked is kinda boring. If they had the Nurburgring i might have spent more time with it :mrgreen:

I'm not satisfied with mediocrity :cool: , A Japense driver named Takeuchi01 was challenging my times earlier, he is at 2'23.165 while I'm currently at 2'23.107 with these laps

Tuned 1'35.453
Normals 1'47.654 :cheers

Yep, the D is my initialed first name, I am a university student currently, or going to be anyway, next year I will commence 2nd year of a Science degree. Currently I work as a furniture removalist for a company in Tullamarine, and occasionally I'll do some shift work at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre, helping setup/dismantle exhibitions, how about you? Highly unlikely it's you, but i did apply for a Laboratory Technician position recently via email recently..

Well it was defiantly not you, the guy I was dealing with was working on signage for a supermarket chain, which is where I work.
